I wrote the following poem for my wife.  I was at a funeral - perhaps not the most appropriate place to write poetry - but emotions flowed to me at the time, so I wrote.  I think we often personalize things that happen around us in ways beyond the immediate.  In this case, the loss of a friend made me think of the death of my wife and what I would want to express to her.  In doing so, I used titles of songs we "shared" throughout the poem (kind of like a secret code within the poem).  I know this is an imperfect representation of a whole relationship, but I try to express even that inability to say everything.

I hope you enjoy.  I love you Angie!
Unspeakable

I guess to start, I'd like to say
"I love you so, in every way."

I know it can't quite represent
the things we've shared, the time we've spent.

I love the way you look at me
with angel eyes like heaven's seas,

your song of life so sweet and pure -
when loud and strong, or soft, demure.

I think - I know - where e'er I'd be
your heart was always here with me.

You made me strong when I was weak,
but so much more remains unspeak-.

    1. Thanks Ann! You're right there are a couple of Ace of Base references in there, as well as one for Dido - two of our favorite artists.
