I wrote this little haiku as I drove to work this morning. Tuesday Love My heart turns toward home And my bowels spring you-ward. All this on Tuesday
Trevor wrote this one yesterday evening while listening to talks in our church's General Conference, when we hear leaders speak on a variety of topics.  I am glad he was inspired to write about fear and love. Fear As we fear, our spirits fall. Fear is the power which influences all. Fear of who we are and what we shall do; With fear in our hearts, chaos ensues. But fear is shattered when love is near, Because "Perfect love casteth out fear...." (1 John 4:18) Fear shall no longer inside us reign, When we allow love within to remain. by Trevor Bailey Oct. 3, 2015
I have been interested in the 5 languages of love lately and the differences in how people give and experience love. It's fascinating to me that the experience can be so different. Some members of my family and dear friends found that the expression of loving and kind words have the most impact on them. Interestingly, these people are people of few words, who seem to value 'word economy'. For them, a few sincere, kind words spoken in truth mean more than a long hearty conversation. They may also experience more grief at harsh words than some others may. Here is my attempt to express in words of poetry what they might feel when kind words are spoken or written. I am sure it's imperfect, since this is not my first language of love, but I hope it's the thought that counts. Priceless Words What price are words that drip like gold from lips of young, and wise, and old? Like sunshine piercing morning's mist, distilling light on souls thus kissed. Whose ...
This is just a little haiku I wrote in just a couple of minutes at work. I missed seeing my wife this morning (I didn't want to wake her), but want her to know I love her. I know I feel more complete when she feels like we are unified or 'one' as a couple. And I pray she may have peace through Christ, which pretty much always helps us when we aren't feeling exactly unified. So I tried to wrap that into a haiku for her. Morning Haiku for Angie My life is complete When my Love feels united His peace make you whole
It's been quite a while since I have written anything in this blog - my apologies. However, I was visiting a family in my church ('home teaching' for those who know what that is) a couple of months ago and their younger son mentioned writing poetry. I let him know I sometimes wrote poetry and he asked if I would write him a poem. I asked what he would like me to write a poem about and he quickly replied, "prayer." So, this is the poem I wrote for Cameron on prayer. I wanted it to be something that was simple enough to be a child's prayer, yet represent important elements of prayer within it.  Thank you, Cameron, for asking me to write about prayer in this way. Cameron's Poem on Prayer I close my eyes, my hands held tight And pray to God with all my might. I thank Thee, God, for all You give For family, friends, for all that lives, For prophets, teachers, leaders too Who help me learn the truth from You. Help me be good when it ...
